The Illusion of Ceasefire: How “Peace” Mechanisms Enable Israeli Impunity in Gaza

The Illusion of Ceasefire: How “Peace” Mechanisms Enable Israeli Impunity in Gaza

The so-called ceasefire in Gaza

was a cynical ruse—designed to secure Israeli captives while granting Israel free rein to starve, murder, and assassinate Palestinians with impunity. The world was once again duped into accepting a familiar Zionist deception: orchestrated by Israel-first American politicians, financed with US taxpayer dollars, and drenched in Palestinian blood.

Since the ceasefire was announced, hundreds of Palestinians have been killed or injured by Israeli fire. In a single day last week, Israel killed 11 Palestinians in Gaza, including three journalists and several children. By the numbers alone, this “ceasefire” is a grotesque misnomer, averaging at least 17 Palestinians killed or injured every day over the past 100 days.

Some victims were shot or bombed. Others—infants—died more quietly, but no less violently. Babies are freezing to death not because winter is unforgiving, but because Israel has destroyed their homes and continues to block the United Nations Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA) from delivering safe shelters, winterised tents, and adequate housing. This is not collateral damage; it is policy.

Meanwhile, Steve Witkoff, Jared Kushner, and Donald Trump remain conspicuously sanguine, insisting that the ceasefire has “held” since early October 2025. One must ask: would they make the same claim if ten Israeli Jewish children had been killed? The answer is self-evident. What we are witnessing is plain racism—a blood-soaked moral order in which Palestinian babies are rendered disposable, while Jewish children are viewed through an entirely different moral lens.

The Yellow Line: A Trap Disguised as Withdrawal

At the centre of this deception lies the so-called “yellow line”—an ill-defined military boundary marking Israel’s partial withdrawal under phase one of the ceasefire. In practice, it has become a deadly frontier. Israeli forces cross it at night; Palestinians who cross it by day, without warning or oversight, are shot.

Palestinians believed the ceasefire would allow them to return briefly—to inspect shattered homes, retrieve belongings, or forage for wild plants to feed their children. Instead, they find entire neighbourhoods erased, not in the heat of battle, but methodically demolished by an occupying power driven by unrelenting hostility.

Aid Blocked, Siege Refined

Aid is not entering Gaza in accordance with the ceasefire agreement. The siege has not been lifted—it has been refined. Convoys are delayed indefinitely. Medical equipment is rejected over bureaucratic technicalities. Fuel, shelter materials, and prefabricated housing are blocked or severely restricted.

Hospitals lack medicine not because supplies do not exist, but because Israel has revoked the licences of 37 aid organisations, including Doctors Without Borders, preventing them from deploying staff or delivering assistance. Children are dying not only from bullets and bombs, but from hunger, disease, and cold.

Escalation by Design

As atrocities in Gaza continue, Israeli mobs terrorise Palestinian villages in the occupied West Bank—torch homes, assault civilians, and expand Jewish-only colonies with near-total impunity. Simultaneously, Israel escalates regional tensions with calculated intent.

This is a familiar pattern: provoke wider confrontation, shift headlines, play the victim, and bury culpability beneath the chaos of a larger war. To that end, Israel is openly goading Iran, seeking to draw the United States into yet another war tailored to Israeli political interests, while imposing catastrophic costs on the region.

Complicity of the West

The United States remains Israel’s primary enabler, laundering war crimes through diplomatic euphemism. Europe’s position is scarcely less cynical. In late 2025, the European Union debated punitive measures, including suspending Israel’s preferential trade agreement over violations of international humanitarian law. These measures were shelved the moment the fictional ceasefire was announced.

By trading accountability for illusion, Israel’s allies granted it yet another reprieve. Israel understood the message. It adjusted its tactics—and the violations intensified. Demolitions continued. Aid was strangled. Children died, not only under fire, but frozen in the ruins of their own homes.
