“Talking about political opponents will not benefit the people” – Tarique Rahman

BNP Chairperson Tarique Rahman made these remarks.

He said, “Standing before you today, I could have spoken about our political opponents. But that would not benefit the people in any way. The people will benefit only when we can systematically excavate canals, ensure healthcare, and create employment opportunities for the youth. The people will benefit when we are able to maintain law and order properly.”

Presenting plans for the country’s people, Tarique Rahman said, “When I returned to the country, I said that I have prepared some plans for the people. One of them is to introduce a Family Card for women from working-class and low-income families. Through this card, a housewife will receive some assistance every month, even if it is modest. Some people say—can a family run on such small assistance? We also know it cannot. But if, out of four weeks in a month, the government can support a family for at least one week, that itself will be a major relief for many people.”

He added that alongside family cards for housewives, the party wants to introduce Farmer Cards to stand by farmers. “Through these cards, we want to ensure the direct delivery of fertilizer, seeds, and pesticides to farmers.”

Referring to the demands of the people of Feni, he said, “Insha’Allah, we will establish a medical college. But so that people in villages can receive medical services, we want to introduce healthcare services across the country. Their job will be to deliver healthcare to mothers and sisters door to door. Unless there is a serious illness, people will not need to suffer by going to large hospitals.”

He said that just as the people of Feni, Lakshmipur, and Noakhali have development demands, BNP also has a demand of the people: to make the Sheaf of Paddy (BNP’s election symbol) victorious. “We do politics for the people of the country. What we promise, we will try to implement. The people are the sole source of all power for BNP.”

Mentioning nationwide canal excavation, the BNP chairperson said, “A year ago, devastating floods in Feni, Noakhali, and Lakshmipur caused massive damage to homes, crops, and livestock. We want to excavate canals across the country. Canal excavation will benefit local people.”

He said another plan is to address unemployment among youths and young people. “We want to create employment opportunities for them. Just as EPZs (Export Processing Zones) were established in Chattogram during the time of Shaheed Zia and Begum Khaleda Zia, we want to establish similar zones in the Feni region. This will allow local people to get jobs in factories there.”

Tarique Rahman further said that many people from the region go abroad for work. “If they are given proper training and language education, they can secure better-paying jobs. We want to train young people in various skills and languages and send them abroad. This will benefit them and also the country, as they will earn higher wages and send more foreign currency home.”

He said that if these plans can be implemented, the fortunes of the country’s people can be changed. “For that, we need your support and your vote for the Sheaf of Paddy. If the Sheaf of Paddy wins on the 12th, we will be able to implement the plans I have mentioned.”

He added, “People across the country are witnesses to how, for the past 15 years, people’s right to speak and right to vote were suppressed. On August 5, 2024, in the face of a student-people’s movement, that autocratic regime was forced to flee. Today, an opportunity for change has emerged.”

At the rally, BNP Chairperson Tarique Rahman introduced the Sheaf of Paddy candidates from various parliamentary constituencies of the greater Noakhali region’s three districts. He also met the families of those martyred and the injured in the uprising in Feni on August 4, 2024.
